President - Board of Directors
Matt first encountered Selections as a practicum student in 2003, when he was finishing up his Rehabilitation Practitioner diploma through Macewan University. Like many others at the time, this practicum turned into Matt’s first job post diploma, as he stayed on as a Career Development Coordinator and worked in this role for nearly 2 years. During this time, Matt lead a Community Capacity Building initiative, and gained many skills that have followed him through his career. Since his time at Selections, Matt has held a number of positions at different places supporting people with disabilities and leading programs that eliminate poverty and homelessness in Edmonton. His current role, Director of Community Programs and Services at Bissell Centre sees him managing programs that help people that are homeless find housing. In addition to this, Matt attained a degree from the University of Calgary (2009) in Community Rehabilitation and Disability studies, was a member of the Disability Studies advisory committee for Macewan University, has been a training facilitator for the Alberta Council of Disability Services Foundations program, and has been a volunteer coach with Strathcona County Special Olympics for over 12 years.
Matt understands the human need to feel a sense of belonging, and views supported employment as an excellent place to build community. As a board member, Matt hopes to ensure that Selections continues its tradition of excellence in this sector, and find ways to contribute to building an even stronger organization.
Matt lives in Edmonton with his wife Kristine.
