Selections is the first Edmonton Agency to evolve from a sheltered workshop to a totally community based service model. The groundwork of Selections was laid in the form of South Edmonton Bottle Depot in March 1979. This was a vocational training program sponsored by Edmonton Separate School Board.
The program focused on providing short-term training in a work environment for young adults with a developmental disability. The bottle depot provided an opportunity for individuals to learn job related skills and habits, as well as, gain increased self-confidence from learning and performing regular job duties. Once individuals were competent in job skills, they were referred to various job placement agencies throughout the city.
