New Executive Director
The Board of The Society for Selections: A Career Support Service is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Burnside as Executive Director, effective November 29, 2010. Kevin brings well honed leadership ability and extensive supervisory and project management experience to the position. Known for his positive approach, Kevin brings the ability to provide a strategic perspective, to quickly analyze and resolve issues that arise as well as diplomacy and tact in dealing with stakeholders.
Kevin is married with four children, two of whom have developmental disabilities. He holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Toronto and began his career as an actuarial student progressing through management positions with large insurance companies. He has been a benefits consultant and spent seven years managing a large member services department within a Board-governed public sector association. For the last few years Kevin pursued his interest in home renovations and left the field holding a supervisory position.
Kevin is a contributing member to his community and has in the past volunteered with the Knights of Columbus, The Chain That Binds Rosary Society and Ephphatha House retreat centre.
He is looking forward to providing guidance to the clients and staff of Selections to further the good work the organization is doing to support adults with developmental disabilities.
Please join the Board in welcoming Kevin to Selections.

Registered Disability Savings Plan
A RDSP is set up with a financial institution. The RDSP provides long term financial security for a person with a disability. It includes receiving a bond ($1000.00) and grant ($1500.00) yearly from the government when a personal contribution of $1000.00 is placed into a RDSP savings account. The grant and bond contributed by the government matures in 10 years. So, in the 11th year, the entire amount saved including the grant and bond can be withdrawn. This continues on a yearly basis to ensure the savings are withdrawn over time. For more details you can check the website Canada Revenue Agency - RDSP
Rocking the Night Away
On June 4, 2010 Selections hosted its second annual dinner and silent/live auction fundraiser, “Rockin’ The
Night Away”. Wonderfully entertained once again by the talented Colby Nargang shaking us up, with the
music of Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. Appreciation is extended to our sponsors Magic 99, Winners,
Valard Construction, Linda Crawshaw, A Sense of Serenity, Diana Tambasco and picture that photography.
Gratitude goes out to Brandon Reid from Magic 99 for being a wonderful emcee and contributing to us raising
$13,000.00.
Special thanks to Dick Allan from the Auctioneers Association for volunteering his time. Dick was magical at having people open their wallets and hearts. Larry Johnson and his crew provided excellent auction set up and paymaster services that enabled things to run smoothly for our guests and volunteers.
We look forward to seeing all our wonderful guests again in 2011 for our 3rd Annual Rockin’ The Night Away event. This event could not have happened without all the help of our fantastic planning committee, staff, volunteers and generous donors. You are the foundation for building a better qualityof life for persons with disabilities and the communities that support their futures. If you would like to be on the committee for next years event please contact Karen Rea @ 780-461-5270.
We would like to thank our Sponsors and Donors again for their generous support! Their commitment
to helping us make this event a success is greatly appreciated by everyone at Selections and by
those who benefit from our services!
